Cost Estimator

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Cost Estimator will work closely with an integrated team to perform a wide range of assignments for clients in the energy sector, including:

  • Meet with clients and discuss the scope and scale of the project. Prepare executive level presentations and reports of cost estimates including recommendations.

  • Collect and analyze data to assess the estimated costs of projects and materials. 

  • Lead the cost estimation workstream of the project and collaborate with other team members on the overall client deliverable.

  • Create and maintain a database that captures current market and historical costs for use in future projects.

  • Work with FEP team members on projects such as appraisals and valuations.

  • Review and analyze existing and proposed processes, staff, and materials.  Identify cost reduction opportunities.

  • Implement predictive estimating tools and consult with industry experts.

  • Travel to job sites to gather information on materials, labor, and other factors



  • High level mathematical skills and attention to detail

  • Advanced analytical skills and proficiency with cost estimator software

  • Experience in the power market industry

  • Good project management skills

  • Competence proving quality assurance/quality control for all work projects submitted to stakeholders

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage the expectations of stakeholders, FEP staff and third parties which may be necessary to complete the work 

  • Interpersonal skills that include a teamwork attitude with a focus on meeting stakeholder need while striving for an enjoyable work environment for all FEP staff 



  • Bachelor’s degree construction management / science, engineering, or a related field

  • At least 20 years’ experience as a cost estimator


Salary Range​:

$125 to $150 per hour dependent on experience and education.
