MANAGING CONSULTANT OF ELECTRIC POWER MODELING

UTILITY ARBORIST

MANAGING CONSULTANT OF ELECTRIC POWER MODELING

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The Managing Consultant will be responsible for producing power and energy market studies, developing market forecasts, research, data management and analyzing power market trends. The Consultant will work closely with an integrated team to perform a wide range of assignments applicable to our market forecasting group, including modeling and forecasting, and economic and financial analyses of electric power markets, such as:

  • Strategic and transactional support to project developers, utilities, and lenders;

  • Market studies, including those related to energy and capacity pricing, renewables, and environmental regulations;

  • Resource planning analytics;

  • Capacity expansion review, development, and validation;

  • Generation, energy market, environmental compliance, and cost/economic analyses; and

  • Market assessment reporting.

 

The Consultant’s role may require travel in accordance with client and FEP needs. The Consultant will participate in market modeling, primary research, data management, technical and financial analyses, and other activities.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Previous experience analyzing and forecasting electric power markets, including power plant operations and fuel commodity prices;

  • Familiarity with U.S. power markets, operations, and structures; 

  • Familiarity with fundamental power market models, including zonal or nodal capabilities;

    • Previous experience with Aurora, licensed from EPIS LLC, is preferred;

  • Knowledge of environmental regulations impacting power plant operations and market pricing;

  • Competence providing quality assurance/quality control for all work projects submitted to clients;

  • Attention to detail;

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills;

  • Ability to manage tasks necessary to complete the work; and 

  • Interpersonal skills that include a teamwork attitude, with a focus on meeting our clients' needs while striving for an enjoyable work environment for all FEP staff.

 

Education/Experience

 

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, finance, economics or other applicable areas;

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience analyzing and/or modeling the electric power markets;

  • Experience with fundamental power market models (Aurora or similar); and

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Macros, and Visual Basic.

 
 

UTILITY ARBORIST

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The Utility Arborist will be responsible for providing a broad range of services to FEP clients, with responsibilities including:

  • Identify opportunities for improving safety

  • Report unsafe working conditions, work practices, and potential hazards

  • Safely operate a motor vehicle for travel to assigned work areas

  • Lead daily safety briefs

  • Conduct vegetation management field inspections for electric facilities

  • Identification of electric transmission, substation, and distribution facilities 

  • Identification of vegetation/conductor clearances

  • Identification and evaluation of hazard trees that threaten electric facilities using tree risk assessment principles

  • Identification of native and landscape tree species

  • Audit completed utility vegetation inspection and/or line clearance contractor fieldwork for compliance with Client’s specifications and procedures

  • Use of various arboricultural tools


The Utility Arborist role will require extensive travel in accordance with client and FEP needs. 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Knowledge of electric transmission, substation, and distribution facilities;

  • Knowledge of OSHA 1910.269 and ANSI Z133 safety requirements;

  • Knowledge of ANSI A300 tree care standards;

  • Experience and knowledge of integrated vegetation management and best management practices for electric utilities;

  • Competence proving quality assurance/quality control for all work projects submitted to stakeholders

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills;

  • Ability to manage the expectations of stakeholders, FEP staff and third parties which may be necessary to complete the work; and 

  • Interpersonal skills that include a teamwork attitude with a focus on meeting our clients' needs while striving for an enjoyable work environment for all FEP staff.

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, urban forestry, arboriculture, or closely related field;

  • ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Utility Specialist, ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification; and

  • At least 5 years’ experience in electric utility vegetation management.
